A cop who starred in his department’s lip sync video has been arrested for seven felonies for molesting a 14-year-old.
Potosi police officer Quntazi Jones, 29, was charged with four counts of statutory rape and three counts of statutory sodomy October 5.
On October 3, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department was notified about the Missouri police officer having sex with an underage girl.
Washington County Sheriff Zach Jacobsen then contacted the Missouri Highway Patrol, which launched an investigation into Jones.
Initially, Jones told detectives he only had a “personal” relationship with child’s parents.
But during the interrogation, he eventually admitted to having sex with the girl more than 30 times beginning when she was 14.
The most recent sexual encounter occurred in September while officer Jones was in uniform and driving his patrol car, according to court documents.
Potosi, Missouri is located in Washington County about 55 miles southeast of St. Louis.
All across the country, police department’s have taken on the so-called “lip sync challenge,” producing videos of officers dancing and singing popular jams in an obvious PR effort to paint police officers in a better light in the eyes of the public.
Potosi’s lip sync video currently has over 25,000 views on its YouTube video.
Jones is one of five police officers to appear in the video, which can be viewed above.
Video footage shows Jones lip syncing “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion as another officer stands behind him.
Jones attempts to reenact the scene from the movie “Titanic” by stretching his arms while the officer behind him holds on to him by his duty belt.
When the video hit YouTube in July, Jones was well into the relationship with the girl, according to his own statements contained in court documents.
The relationship began in April 2017.
The victim told investigators she had at least 20 sexual encounters with Jones.
Detectives investigating Jones also found lewd pictures of the two on Jones’ cellphone, which had been exchanged in a password protected folder on Snapchat, according to StlToday.
Jones has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of his criminal cases, according to Potosi Police Chief Michael Gum.
